Simon's Cycles
Logo and Clothing design
As an avid cyclist, I was excited when approached by Simon from
Simon's Cycles
to create a new logo and garment design for his store in Comox.
Instructions from Simon were to include his ubiquitous cartoon character,
the Comox glacier, and Native art into the design. Making the three
elements flow together was to be a challenge. I decided to make
the design look reminiscent of old cycling posters. In this vein,
I put the character on a 40s and 50s Jacques Anquetil-style bike,
replete with goggles and tube on the back. Continuing with the "ligne
claire" rendition of the character, I did the glacier in the
same way. Finally, in order to place a Kwakiutl sun in this setting,
I thought non-formline rays would be the answer. Voila! I think
it turned out pretty good. What do you think?
