Hey, diddle, diddle,
The cat and the fiddle,
The cow jumped over the moon. (The Musmus jumped over the Makwala)
The little dog laughed
To see such sport,
And the dish ran away
With the spoon.
In “Musmus over the Makwala,” I have decided to draw
on this “legend” from my childhood. For many years,
I have considered making a whimsical print and have often thought
of focusing on the bovine character in this celebrated nursery rhyme.
With my daughter, Claire, recently passing the one year mark, the
time was right.
In creating the print, I have drawn on both my Native and non-Native
ancestries. When my mom first saw the design she said, “Musmus
over the Makwala.” The name stuck because I felt that it aptly
captures the design’s spirit of cultural sharing. I sincerely
hope that adults and children alike will enjoy “Musmus over
the Makwala.”
“Musmus over the Makwala” is a limited
edition print using the giclée method of printmaking. Print

over the Makwala” and are signed by Andy Everson: 50 in the
primary edition bearing the numbers 1/50 through 50/50; 5 Artist’s
Proofs; and 1 Printer’s Proof. The acid-free 100% cotton Hahnemühle
Albrecht Durer Rag paper measures 9.5x13 inches. Image size measures
